About Us

Playing With Fire was created by Lisa Lathrop and Tim Perry, a retired married couple from Madison, Wisconsin. We enjoy playing games and at one point we were playing several games suitable for 2 players that were similar to Playing With Fire, but we felt there wasn't enough risk and challenge. So we started taking notes of what we would do differently and pretty soon we had several pages of ideas.  As we looked at the list we decided to keep going and see if we could create a game of our own. When it came time to decide on a theme, we wanted to incorporate a saying that Lisa's mom used to use, usually when she was fed up with someone, "You Can Go To Blazes!" With that we started off on the fire theme and the rest fell into place. Lisa started working on the graphics and handed them off to her nephew and his wife, Dustin and Tiffany Winterowd, graphic design and photography duo at Rowds Creative.  Next thing we knew we were printing a prototype and play testing.  Once the final version was ready to roll (pun intended) we selected The Game Crafter in Madison, Wisconsin to produce our game. This was a very intentional decision as we wanted the game produced in the US, we love the fact they are local, and since we were preparing to head out on the road full-time in our van with our two kitties, we knew we had no space for carrying inventory and handling fulfillment on our own.
In October 2022 we attended our first Gamehole Con, in Madison, Wisconsin. The game was well received by attendees, and we knew then that we had something more than just a game that we like to play. We attended our second game con in March 2023, Dice Tower West in Las Vegas, Nevada. Once again the game was well received by attendees. We're now hoping to find a publisher to help us get the game onto the tables of many more gamers. We are also working on a prototype lawn version of the game which we think will be a big hit for backyard gatherings, music festivals, and brewpubs and wineries with outdoor spaces. Watch for our kickstarter for the lawn version to come early in 2024!
If you made it all the way to the end of this section, thank you, and Blaze On!
Cheers-
Lisa and Tim
